The plight of children with special educational needs (SEND) and disabilities during coronavirus restrictions has left exhausted parents feeling ‘abandoned’ without access to lifeline services. Closures and reductions of education, health and domestic provision during the pandemic have increased the burden on families who say they were already struggling to cope beforehand. An Ofsted report into the impact of the first lockdown published this week found that some children lost basic skills and learning as a result of school closures and restrictions on movement.
