Terms and conditions

  • The Child Law Advice Service is a digital first service. 
  • We have information on child, family and education law on our website. 
  • If you have clarifying questions after consulting the resources available on our website or your matter is a complex one then you can contact one of our telephone lines either 0300 330 5485 for education law issues or 0300 330 5480 for family and child law issues.
  • Both lines are extremely busy and may need to call a number of times in order to get through to an advisor.
  • Please note we need to take a name, address and telephone number in order to advise as part of our child protection policy.
  • Our online resources are available 24/7.
  • Our telephone lines are open from Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am and 6pm.
  • Our telephone lines are closed on bank holidays and during the Christmas period. 
  • Please note that the phone number is a withheld number. Please therefore provide us with a telephone number that accepts incoming calls from a withheld number.
  • Please note we can only advise if you provide us your name, address and telephone number. We will not share this information with any third parties and your information will be held in the strictest confidence. We will only share this information if we have a child protection concern.
  • We can only advise people residing in England.
  • We can only advise on family, child and education law .
  • We cannot advise professionals if you are calling in relation to what you should be doing in your professional capacity. We can only advise professionals if you are calling on behalf of a young person/family and they require advice.
  • We cannot advise on any financial matters including child maintenance payments
  • We cannot advise if you have legal representation in place
  • We cannot provide advice on merits of an appeal
  • We cannot provide representation through this service
  • We aim to respond to messages within five working days but please note we cannot provide legal advice via e-mail.
  • If you find it difficult to speak English, call us to connect to an interpreter. 
  • Our bookable time slots are limited to a period of up to 30 minutes for a cost of £25. The advisor speaking to you will advise if you are due to go over the period and will discuss subsequent payment with you. 
  • If you have booked a bookable call back our advisor will try you three times within the allocated time slot. If you do not answer your phone after the third attempt we will e-mail you to advise we have tried to call. Money will not be refunded without agreement of the Manager.
  • If you wish for a refund of you bookable slot please contact Gemma Smith, Manager at CLAS@coramclc.org.uk. Please detail your reason for requesting a refund.

Please note that abusive behaviour towards our staff will not be tolerated and we reserve the right to terminate the call if this occurs. Our staff will also not tolerate bad language being used during an advice call.

 

The Child Law Advice Service is a confidential service and we will not share information that you provide us to third parties. The only times in which we will do this is:

  • We have concerns that a young person is at risk of harm
  • We have a safeguarding concern regarding an adult
  • We are ordered to by way of a Court Order
